Introduction

The Creation Care Take Action webpage is available for parishioners wishing to contact their State or Federal representatives, the Media, Non-Government Organizations – NGO’s, or companies. Each of us can promote sustainability and justice at multiple levels: as an individual, as a parent, a community member, a national citizen, or as a global citizen. Follow what works best for you. If you are a “multi-tasker” and can handle several areas of advocacy, then follow that path. If you desire advocacy in a few deeply personal areas – then that should be your path. Most of us fall somewhere in between.

Because the problems are complex, there are many places for intervention and advocacy. No single approach will solve the pervasive problems of our community, state, region, nation or world. Everyone can make a difference because we act together.

Keep in mind the words of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta

We cannot do great things, we can only do small things with great love.”

Action Alerts – From time-to-time, we will provide pre-worded messages that advocate for a specific “Take Action” issue. These Pre-worded “Take Action” messages can be – Copied and Pasted – into your E-mailings or letters.

Take time to say “Thank You”.
Far too often, we may email or write to someone asking him or her to act upon an issue or to express our viewpoint. “Take Action” should also include an expression of our thanks and gratitude to someone for their part in listening: to our viewpoints and to what concerns us. Take time to say “Thank You” to those who acted favorably to our concerns and viewpoints.

The Basics

We will be using the Colorado Catholic Conference webpage Tips for Contacting your Legislator to help you find your State or Federal Representative as well as Media sources.

For an extensive list of U.S. Non-government Organizations - NGOs - we will use - The Story of Stuff website http://www.storyofstuff.com/ngolist.html . This site limits the list to NGOs of United States. Select from the list of Extraction, Production, Distribution, Consumption, Disposal, Other.

International organizations can be found at wiserearth.org - an online community directory and networking forum that maps and connects non-governmental organizations working on the critical environmental and social issues of our times.

The First Letter of John calls us to the task: 1 Jn 3:17-18 –
If anyone is well-off in worldly possessions and sees his brother in need but
closes his heart to him, how can the love of God be remaining in him?
Children, our love must be not just words or mere talk,
but something active and genuine.
