LAZARUS MINISTRY

Our Lazarus ministers companion members of our MPB church community who are saddened and grieving from a recent loss of a loved one-a spouse, a child, a parent, a pregnancy, a friend, or are going through a life transition such as a job loss, relocation, or divorce. We need men and women volunteers to companion (journey alongside) our bereaved through their difficult times by being present with their suffering, listening to stories related to their losses, having resources and referrals available for them.

Lazarus minister duties included:

† Learning about death, loss and grieving

† Attending the pre-planning of mass and funerals (if your schedule permits)

† Making regular phone calls and offering to listen to our bereaved parishioners

† Sending notes and cards to them on special dates and holidays

† Encouraging different ways to express their grief

† Understand that healing has its own timetable

† Providing referrals to appropriate grief support groups or counselors

† Some involvement with All Souls Day service, grief workshops, and speakers

Everyone has experienced losses that they can draw upon to offer hope to the bereaved. If you have something to give to this ministry, please contact Mary Martin, Parish Counselor at (303) 756-3083.
