Religious Education for Children

Sunday Morning School

Religious instruction for children from four years old through eighth grade is scheduled to meet from 9:00-10:15 a.m. each Sunday of the school year according to the calendar on the next page. Classes are held in the school. It is important for your child to be on time.

In order to give each child the attention he/she needs, class size must be limited. Please register early to be assured of a space for your child. A child must be 4 or 5 by September 15 to be enrolled in the preschool or kindergarten classes. Please, no exceptions.

Curriculum – Our Sunday School for children uses several series. The four year old children use "Sharing God’s Story" by Brown-ROA and Call to Faith series from Harcourt Religion Publishers for Pre-K through 6th grade. Seventh and eighth grade students use various materials to grow deeper in understanding and living their faith.

Outreach – Each year the children of the Sunday Morning School participate in an effort to help the poor. This year we will join with parish efforts in providing for specific need through the Family to Family Program and the Interfaith Hospitality Network. Through these efforts our children can come to know more fully the Gospel call to share our bounty with the poor whose presence and needs are always with us.

Each month there is a newsletter to keep families better informed of Sunday Morning School. It will include items needed during the month as part of our outreach and various other pieces of communication. If you don’t see a newsletter each month, drop by the Religious Education office and ask for one. If you have any questions about the faith formation of your child, don’t hesitate to call. We are all walking the journey with your child.

It is our objective to provide an atmosphere where the children will know they are loved by God and will enjoy learning about God and expressing their relationship with God. Please feel free to discuss your child’s religious education with the teacher and/or the Sunday Morning School Coordinator at any time. We will assist parents, the primary teachers of faith, in any way possible.

Other Ministries of Children’s Religious Education

Liturgy of the Word Program This program is offered during the masses on Saturday (4:30pm) Sunday (9:00am and 10:45 am) (except for holidays and mid-June thru August). There is no registration or cost for this program. Children from 3 years of age to 5 (kindergarten) have the opportunity to hear and reflect on the Sunday readings at their own Liturgy of the Word. There is also the opportunity for adults and teens to assist in this work. If you are interested in helping, call the Religious Education Office at 756-3083.
