ITBS Test Scores The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) is given to every student every year beginning in the second grade. This a norm-referenced test which compares individual scores against the very large norming group score. MPB students do very well with this instrument starting off in second grade about a half school year ahead of the actual grade and month in which the test is taken. The grey shaded boxes on the chart below track the growth over each year for each grade. By the time MPB students take the test in 8th grade over half of them have grown to the point that they "max out" the test and score an average of 13+ which is the way the average college freshman would score taking the same test. Growth of at least a year (1.0) is expected; what is true of MPB is the average growth is a year and a half (1.5) each year.
