What is OCIA?
Becoming Catholic is a process of prayer, reflection, and learning to better understand God’s will in our lives.
The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) is the process by which adults are welcomed into the Catholic Church. This process is modeled after the same process that Christians used during early centuries of Christianity.
You will have the opportunity to come to better know Jesus Christ and his Church. What does the Catholic Church believe? How can we have a relationship with God? How does the Catholic Church worship God? We will explore these questions (and much more) throughout OCIA. The OCIA journey is divided into four periods (Evangelization/Precatechumenate, Catechumenate, Purification & Enlightenment, and Mystagogy) that respect the individual’s journey of faith. Each person moves at a unique pace. There will be opportunities throughout the periods of OCIA for people to discern, with the help of the OCIA leadership team, if they want and are ready to move forward. Full initiation into the Catholic Church takes place at Easter with the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist (also known as Holy Communion).

FAQs
In short, any adult seeking to learn more! No matter where you are on your faith journey, we invite you to
learn more here at Most Precious Blood. More specifically, of you fall under one (or more) of these groups, we

People who have never been baptized.
-

-
Baptized Catholics who are seeking to receive Confirmation and/or Holy Communion.
-
Those looking to deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith and know Christ and His Church better.
You do not need to be sure about becoming Catholic to join OCIA! We are happy to walk with you as you search. We also invite you to bring along friends who may be interested. Or, if someone has brought you back to the Catholic faith, invite them to attend OCIA with you!
-
Please check back in August when our 2025 schedule will be available.
Sessions will be at Most Precious Blood in the OCIA room (when walking into the Church, immediately to the right).
There is no cost.
At the weekly meetings there will be time for prayer, learning, and discussion/sharing. Throughout the OCIA process, there will be two retreats and other faith and service events that will serve as moments to focus more deeply on being a disciple of Christ. While each has his/her own journey, the OCIA process and entire Catholic life intrinsically involves community. You will have the opportunity to walk alongside others who are supporting you, praying for you, and learning with you.
Each member of OCIA is encouraged to spend some time each week in prayer and reflection. There is no homework but recommended readings and videos will be given every week for deeper reflection. If you are seriously considering becoming Catholic or receiving the Sacrament(s) of Confirmation and/or Holy Communion, attendance is expected at weekly sessions and Sunday Mass. Your experience will be a direct result of how much you invest your heart and time into it. Ask questions, share observations, and get ready for a wonderful journey! While not required, you’re also invited to dinner before the Wednesday OCIA sessions from 6:00–7:00 PM in the parish hall (to the left of the main church entrance). Most Precious Blood offers these dinners for everyone in the parish community. We ask for a $4 donation so that we can continue to make these community dinners available every week.
For families: Most Precious Blood also has a youth ministry program for high-school students on Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM! See the website for more details.
